Science cannot explain everything. But it affirms the facts with empirical support. Let us keep away the superstitions and comprehend nature with a reasonable hypothesis
Theory of Evolution
Our earth is the greatest lab. This lab created the first biomolecule. But this hypothesis has an alternative. There is the possibility that life had its origin from a distant source. This could be from a meteorite or comet where the organic compounds could be preserved for a long time.
Science affirms such primordial bacterias. This ascertains the possibility of such organic compounds.
The natural condition of the earth for the origin of life was not a coincidence. It was one of the possibilities of nature from randomness. (Read also What Does Science Say About Free Will?)
According to the royal society’s ‘Reconceptualizing the origin of Life’, the chemical reactions take place in a range of probabilities where the chances versus necessity is a false belief. Life had a beginning from a collective networked phase. So, there was no individuality before the Darwinian transition.
All the reactions and phenomena are those that we study with the aid of science. It’s what we cognize as the natural laws of the cosmos. It is an unbiased scientific law.
How the cluster of atoms of the first biomolecule had life? Then, what’s the level of consciousness it had?
Defining life complicates it. Mark Bedau, a researcher at the University of Southern Denmark posted a triad model (Program-Metabolism-Container) to define life under the chemical state. It is the minimal state need for existence, growth, reproduction, and evolvement.
Life defines in the sense that the first biomolecule had the natural ability to replicate. The DNA molecule had its entire blueprint and it determines the characteristics. Something likes a coded computer program.
Here, the evolution of the living organism begins. The origin of life and evolution are at the same point. The evolution began as life originated. It’s the center of origin of life where they both met together. Later, the DNA molecule has undergone various changes.
They posted two questions regarding life, “How evolution gets started? How evolution produces life?”
The theory gives authority to the laws of nature than the archetypal creation of god. Scientist argues that the need of the god or the supernatural for the creation of life is completely deniable.
Even if the supernatural had a role, it sinks within the natural probability. However, if it gives a halt to the superstitious beliefs, the above questions are still unanswered.
The theory is clearly observable in a longer timescale. In larger species, it will take 1000 years to note the considerable change. We know how germs and pests react to natural and manmade conditions; they evolve by reacting to the conditions. It’s the laws of survival.
Theory of Consciousness
Consciousness is a hard problem. It’s not easy to solve. The neuroscientists could only scratch its surface. What we know a little about it is from the mystics.
Science says that consciousness is being aware of the body. It’s the body consciousness having different states of consciousness. What we see in medical conditions such as the altered state of consciousness is dependent on the body.
Spirituality says consciousness is independent of the body. The above consciousness is the ego consciousness. (Read also Is Telepathy Real?)
According to Indian philosophy, consciousness has four parts
- First the ‘I’ consciousness, the self-perception ‘I’ that identifies with the mind and body.
- The intellectual part deals with decision-making at the subconscious level.
- The sensible mind that involves in mental illusory of will or resolution.
- The mental part deals with remembering and forgetting.
These four parts are collectively viewed as consciousness.
Where does this consciousness arise? Is it from matter or consciousness that makes us aware of the matter?
Hoffmann says consciousness is first, matter, and fields depend on it for its very existence.
Science refers to consciousness as the cognitive capacity. Neuroscientist Ramachandran says “what we are hoping is that we can grope our way towards the answer, finding little bits and pieces, little clues towards understanding what consciousness is.
We just scratched the surface of the problem. When I say ‘we’, it is not just one lab but the entire world. When the world of science itself groping its way towards the answer. It is rather premature to make triumphant statements on the validation of Shankara’s theory.”
Once a visitor asked Ramana Maharishi about the code of discipline for the yogis – ahimsa; as the killing of life is against such code.
The visitor said, “The plants have life”.
Maharishi, “So too the slabs you sit on”.
Everything is consciousness, nothing is apart from them. But how we perceive it is regarding our mind. It seems that the dream state is real in sleep. So as the wakeful state is real when you are awake. Your mind veils the real from unreal. The collective acts of the cosmos give the sense that the world is real. (Read also 7 Most Influential Spiritual Yogis in the World)
You are sure of your existence without any reference, so also you exist in deep sleep. This world is to the mind, not to the self. The world is impermanent. Nothing transient is real.
The mathematical theory had a greater impact on the perception of the world and philosophical ideas. If someone asks me to explain relativity in a single sentence, I would say “everything is relatively interrelated”.
If the whole world doesn’t exist in the material form, it would exist as a form of energy. E = mc2, the mathematical model validates it. Then this energy is termed as God, supreme consciousness, existence, etc. there is nothing apart from this energy. It’s the Advaitha philosophy.
Another impact on the concept of philosophical ideas and physical realities is the concept of space and time. Now the science says that it’s not an absolute quantity, it’s relative. According to the principle, if there is no time, there is no space. When we dig deep into these physical concepts, space and time exist only in the mind.
This theory predicts the spooky and mysterious phenomena of the cosmos. Still, there are lots more that the mind couldn’t apprehend. (Read also 8 Remarkable Life Lessons from Einstein)
This theory also had a greater impact on the perception of the world. This is the perception of the cosmos at the microscopic level. This defines events in nature as uncertain. Everything is under probability with a deterministic outcome in the closed-form.
Lots more effects such as quantum tunneling, quantum entanglement, etc. perplex our mind. This is a close companion of the philosophies. When viewed from these scientific principles, the world is weird as real.
Some anticipated that quantum mechanics could reveal the secrets of consciousness. The suggestion of quantum microtubules and quantum consciousness looks onto it.
The world keenly noticed the mysterious behavior of the double-slit experiment. Some have misinterpreted it. According to them, the action of mind or consciousness can influence the behavior of the matter.
But in reality, the probabilistic behavior of the particle in the experiment exhibits similar nature with or without human indulgence. The observance of the experiment doesn’t mean the involvement of consciousness but the act of detection without direct human interference.
There is a simple analogy in physics. It is like detecting the direction and speed of the bouncing ball in a dark room with a tennis bat. Once you measured it, its attributes change. The act of involvement changes its behavior, but not the role of the mind changes it.
These mysteries are not easy to solve as Feynman said nobody understands quantum mechanics in its entirety. (Read also Sixth Sense Mind Power Techniques – Proven Ways to Use it)
