How to Balance Money and Spirituality?

Money and Spirituality in the Life

What if a person doesn’t have enough money to meet his needs, where he can’t afford money for his own daily requirements? If this is the case, certainly his life becomes worse and unhappy. If the needs of a person which is perhaps rooted in the aims and ambitions are not fulfilled, and whence realizing that it cannot be achieved, he becomes stressed and depressed. It is that the rich people have richer needs and the poor people have poorer needs.

The Concept of Money

The wealth, power, and fame are the three aspects that aspire the human race along with the desire in one plane where the spirituality in the other plane. There is a misconception that the money is against spirituality and it is considered as an evil to spiritual practices. Verily, money or wealth is only an indirect tool that supports a person in his actions (karma).

Osho said, “A real spirituality must be rooted in the earthiness. Any spirituality that denies the earth, rejects the earth, becomes abstract, and becomes an airy fairy. It has no blood in it, it is no more alive. One should not be possessive, and should know how to use it! One should not be miserly. Money has to be created and money has to be used. Money is a beautiful invention, a great blessing if rightly used. It makes many things possible. Money is a magical phenomenon”.

Money and Spirituality

It is considered that earning money is inauspicious for the people who are leading their life in the spiritual path. These people accept money only as donations without the involvement of the self-desire in the materialistic world. These people subsist in the higher plane of existence. The donations accepting by such personalities are different from the persons who accept the donations with hidden self-desire which is similar to earning it in the lower plane. Wealth creates the momentary pleasure, and there is a pleasure in giving and receiving.

A spiritual person or true yogi knows, as whatever that has to be accomplished through the presence of money or the needed wealth will come to him at the right time rather than going behind it. This is the faith that certainly meets the reality. According to him, it is merely a flow of energy. If he doesn’t have anything to do (karma), still he does for the welfare of the world. This is the energy that is inevitable for the existence in the lower plane of life through evolution that cannot be denied. (Read also How to practice kundalini meditation?)

Spiritual Meaning of Money

A man who is not doing any work (subtle karma) fails to secure his own body. A man who is unfit for doing action is unfit for his own body. As I told before money is only a tool to perform his own actions (karma), hence acquiring wealth is as usual. Swami Vivekananda told,  “The householder who struggles to become rich by good means and for a good purpose is practically doing the same thing for the attainment of salvation as the anchorite does in his cell when he is praying”. But such householders are few (i.e., by good means and for a good purpose) and indeed the others karma are bequeathed with the desire of materialistic world.

Everything is the manifestation of energy where money is the flow of energy. This energy is considered as the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi in the Indian tradition. Earning money and expending a share for himself and rest utilizing properly for the needed world is an ideal person. The rest of the world comprises of the welfare of his family, relatives, locality, nation and the world.

Money makes many things, but it doesn’t make everything. Earning money is not inauspicious and it is only a companion in his life journey. A man acquiring wealth in good means and developing a grand company that could feed thousands relies on the path to the virtue of righteousness. Hendry Ford’s quote is notable ‘A business that makes nothing but only money is a poor business’.

The book “Why Kundalini Meditation So Special?” is written by Praveen Kumar gives a clear understanding of such practices and more over a guide for those who seek the path in this field.
