Svadhisthana Chakra

Svadhisthana chakra is located just above the Muladhara at the root of the abdomen. This is located in the path of the Sushumna Nadi which runs from the base of the spine to the crown. The color attributed to this energy center is blood-red, but according to the modern classification, it is assigned with the orange color. The subtle vibrations produced by this nadis is represented by the Sanskrit letters bam, bham, mam, yam, ram, lam. Hence, the Svadhisthana psychic energy center has six nadis and it is an intermediate vital psychic center that it controls the abdominal area.

This energy center is related with the prostatic plexus of the human body and the seed mantra is Vam.

In the book “Why Kundalini Meditation So Special?” I have mentioned the sensation experienced by this vital psychic point while meditating. There are also some of the qualities associated with this energy center as one is moving towards the higher chakras. It is said that one who meditates on this spiritual energy center will be having perfect control over one of the cosmological aspects like water.

Nature of Svadhisthana

The term ‘svadhisthana’ is a Sanskrit word where ‘Sva’ means one’s self and ‘adhisthana’ means source or dwelling place. Hence, gives the meaning as the dwelling place of one’s self. This energy center has a direct link with one’s sexual energy and serves as the lineage between celibacy and promiscuousness. The Muladhara and svadhisthana chakra are not very much distinct in their functions and are nearer to each other.

According to the Indian philosophy, the five basic elements or ingredients of the cosmos in which water is the aspect assigned with the svadhisthana chakra. It is where the fluidity of the body is maintained and also associated with the taste aspect of the senses.

As this energy center is located in the hypogastric region just above the sexual glands, it has the function of regulating the sexual activities and acts as the life-giving force for the subtle bodies and the gross body.

Psychological Aspect of Svadhisthana Chakra

The svadhisthana chakra is responsible for the subconscious activities of the mind in a person. The being one’s self is rooted from here where one’s intimacy, mental and physical desires, emotional self, relationships emanates. This is indeed responsible for the social wellness, prosperity and the passion for the existential life.

The imbalance in this spiritual center causes various physical and psychological disorders. This can cause psychological problems like the feeling of insecurity, not being the self, oversensitivity, social isolation, poor social skills, etc. This also could break down one’s self-confidence and the level of self-esteem.

The physical disorders caused by the imbalance of the psychic center are the kidney problem, disorders in the reproductive organs, diseases related with the small and large intestine, appendix, including the disorder in the womb of women. If anyone has the above-mentioned complications then it is certain that the svadhisthana chakra in them is not functioning properly. This can be also due to the lack of energy in this psychic center. This imbalance could be temporary or permanent according to their actions (karma).

The increased activity in this psychic wheel would cause the increased sexual activities and sexual addiction or increased sexual desires in the human. Similarly, the decreased activity in the energy center is responsible for the decreased sexual desires and the feeling of abstention from the sexual activities.

As the svadhisthana chakra is responsible for the virtue of the subtle bodies and physical body, it is important for one’s well-being, the uniqueness of being the self that is bestowed with the pleasure and inspiration to create and procreate.

Balancing the Svadhisthana Chakra

There are various yoga asanas and exercises to balance the svadhisthana chakra. The asanas related with the baddha konasanasbhastrika breath, virasana and also asanas related with the pelvic tilts, etc could bring balance to the energy center. For those who practice kundalini meditation, it is that meditating in this svadhisthana chakra will wipe out all the discrepancies and disorders related to that, which is far more powerful than if done through any other means.

The book “Why Kundalini Meditation So Special?” gives a clear understanding of such practices and more over a guide for those who seek the path in this field.
