What is Shaktipat Transmission in Kundalini Yoga?

The process of energy transmission from the Guru to the disciple is known as the Shaktipat which literally means ‘descent of energy’ as Shakti – energy, and Pata – to fall.  This process is known as the grace of Guru upon the disciple. Only the awakened Guru can do this as that he knows how to control and awaken the mystical kundalini in the right path. This process is like lighting the lamp with a lamp which has been already lightened. The Shaktipat transmission does not mean that your energy is increased, but it is only the energy initiation which helps in tapping the infinite energy.

Shaktipat Transmission Process

There is symbolism in the Vedic texts where ‘Shakti’ is considered as the female energy. It is dynamic in nature, and this same Shakti is the kundalini that resides in each and every human being. The perfect master who initiates the kundalini energy through shaktipat transmission where the Guru only serves as a mediator.

Guru acts as an intermediate, and it is only the natural energy that falls upon to the receiver on behalf of the medium. There is no superiority and inferiority with the Guru and disciple as it cannot be performed in any egoistic manner. The kundalini energy is considered as the self-intelligent and sheds the light to lead on the right path.

Kundalini Transmission

Shaktipat is ineffective when it is done in a conceited manner. You would have come across over the internet as there as people giving shaktipat for a certain amount of money. Probably approaching such types put you in danger even though their kundalini has been awakened. This process is a divine form, and its genuineness exists only when not done in an egoistic manner. Many masters give kundalini transmission for free and also few trusts that initiate the kundalini in the aspirant by accepting donations or a base payment for its maintenance.

Why is Shaktipat the Fastest and Safest Process?

The path of spirituality is filled with suspicions and skepticisms. Shaktipat gives you a glance or light into the path towards your destination. You know it is there, and indeed, it will strengthen your mind and increase your confidence. The path is not very much obscure, and it is open to you. You can also reach there without shaktipat, but the absence of the light will make you suspicious, and you will feel less confident that takes much time to reach. Shaktipat, in fact, does not increase your energy. The energy that has to be increased is within you. But certainly, it will step up your potentials to reach that energy. As Osho said “It is like this, you are running, and I am after you with a gun in my hands. Now my gun is not going to add to your power of running, but it will surely make you run faster”. It is that you use your full capacity for your growth and shaktipat does not add any extra energy to it.

As I mentioned in the book “Why Kundalini Meditation So Special?” mostly this process is responsible for the partial awakening of the kundalini energy with respect to your karmic background. But those who seek the direct approach perhaps awaken their kundalini fully. It is that nothing can be attained without effort.

In the case of a direct approach, one might aimlessly wander about as he didn’t realize a glimpse of it and that makes him even skeptical as there is, or not. And he will be following the neti – neti approach before the awakening and that will take a long time. But shaktipat helps you without a shred of doubt and clears the rising obstructions in the mind so that it will make sure of your path and destiny. The book “Why Kundalini Meditation So Special?” gives a clear understanding of such practices and more over a guide for those who seek the path in this field.
